Welcome to the Sydney Shinbukan Kendo site.

We are located in Sydney's north-west and draw our members from as far north as
Gosford, west to Windsor and south to Chatswood.
We practice Kendo and Seitei Iaido. We are affiliated with the NSW Kendo Association, Australian Kendo Renmei, ZNKR (Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei or 'All Japan Kendo Association') and IKF (International Kendo Federation).
All of our instructors are registered with NSW Police for instruction of minors.
Kendo as a contact sport is not without risk of injury, and we therefore take
great care to instruct practitioners in the basics before allowing free
sparring.
Iaido does not carry the same risk as Kendo for injury but is more demanding in its pursuit of perfection of drawing, cutting and then returning the sword to its saya.
The beginner uses first a wooden sword, progresses to a blunted katana and eventually to a live blade.
Both Kendo and Iaido are taught in a disciplined manner befitting the gravity of a martial art using weapons; we are, however, a friendly and welcoming club and look forward to crossing swords with you.
